Why Is Play Therapy Our Primary Approach for Children?
Play is a child's natural language. While adults often process experiences by talking, young children communicate through play long before they have the words to fully express their thoughts, emotions, or experiences.
For many children, play therapy provides a developmentally appropriate way to explore feelings, process difficult experiences, strengthen relationships, increase emotional regulation, and develop healthy coping skills. Rather than talking about emotions, children are able to safely experience, express, and work through them in ways that feel natural and engaging.
At Calvert + Associates, play therapy is often the primary therapeutic approach used with children because it meets them where they are developmentally while fostering trust, connection, and emotional growth.
